This is a meant to be a chronicle of my adventures in investing. Linus Torvalds once said:
Only wimps use tape backup. REAL men just upload their important stuff on ftp and let the rest of the world mirror it.
In that spirit, the goal of this blog is to keep track of things, as I learn more about businesses, valuation, and investing. The target audience is a future version of myself.
Any usefulness beyond this modest goal is accidental.
As a beginner, I expect to make mistakes. Indeed, as a novice, I am unafraid to make plenty of mistakes.
Because that is how real learning takes place. In the words of Niels Bohr:
An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made, in a narrow field.
There are additional benefits of exercising my “write to learn”! The process of writing helps me organize my thoughts, and see patterns hidden in things I already know.
Having a written record, also keeps me honest. Given the role of luck, cognitive biases, and selective memory, it is easy to fall into the trap of well-intentioned dishonesty.
Finally, I have a regular job, which has nothing to do with investing. I enjoy my job enormously; this means there will be extended periods when this blog languishes without any attention.
